Love Deluxe’s ‘Summer Of Love’ Playlist

Love Deluxe’s debut EP Silk Mirage is three tracks of summery disco-funk. And if that’s not enough to get you primed for summer, the mysterious Sydney producer has compiled a playlist that’s perfect for boat parties, relaxing by the pool, or taking in a beach sunset.

‘Feel Like Making Love’

Gene Lawrence

Real smooth song from Trinidad and Tobago. Great for relaxing by the pool or beach on a sunny day. Super rare track on wax, thankfully not as expensive as it once was due to the Beach Diggin’ compilation.

‘Falling In Love’

You know you’re in for a groovy time when a song starts with Fender Rhodes chords like this one. Nice simple, groovy track – would be the perfect song for a boat party.

‘Love Talkin’

Tatsuro Yamashita

I thought there needed to be a bit of City Pop in this mix. ‘Love Talkin’ is probably one of the best in the genre. Tatsuro has many great tracks but this is probably his best. The arrangement in this song is spectacular and has many layers of guitars, backing vocals, driving drums, percussion and even harp. If this doesn’t put you in a good mood then I’m not sure what will.

‘Give Me Your Love’

Sylvia Striplin

Absolute jam this one! There’s something about this track that doesn’t allow me to tire of it no matter how many times I listen. Tasty drums and bassline, and of course the vocals which go from being quite soft to almost screaming. Co-produced by the legend Roy Ayers and flipped pretty well by Armand Van Helden.

I Love Music

Really cool Aussie disco cover of The O’Jays song. The album cover is so of its time as well. The two-minute conga breakdown in the middle would be great to sample if only the LP wasn’t so hard to come across.

‘The Colours Of Your Love’

Continuing with the Australia flavour with this one. I think this Aussie AOR band is a bit under appreciated as their biggest song was a cover of ‘Summer Breeze’ by Seals and Crofts. This one is a little on the cheese side, but still there’s some cool elements and they’re obviously great musicians and. I even get a bit of an early Jamiroquai vibe with this one.

‘Get Back Your Love’ (Samo DJ Edit)

Super silky and dreamy. It’s easy to get lost in this track as it’s repetitive but has such an interesting sound. Exactly what you expect from Samo DJ or the German label Public Possession.

‘Power Of Love’

Fun track and video. Love the M1 sounds. Their debut World Clique has some cool tracks that aren’t just ‘Groove Is In The Heart’.

‘Double Dance Lover’ (Disko Dubb Mix)

Mount Liberation Unlimited

I think the Radio Edit and the Disko Dubb Mix are as good as each other. I just love the way this one sounds. Very jammy with lots of different instruments and sounds that just build into a mammoth of a disco track. It sounds like they really enjoyed recording it, which is important, particularly when making dance music.

‘Let Love Flow On’

Sonya Spence

The compilation that I have this on is called Beauty, which really sums this track up concisely. Such a gorgeous track, which would accompany a beach sunset with a loved one.
